Super portable, very sharp, amazing prime
Switching over from Nikon, I had to buy a new main prime. i was contemplating between the 25mm and 17mm 1.8. I had a 50mm equivalent on the Nikon, and i was always upset that there wasn't enough room to walk back to catch a nice frame indoors, so i decided to go with the 17mm. It allows me to take photos of scenes relatively close, without losing context. focus is super fast, and it's very sharp.
The reason it only gets 4 stars:
1. comparing to my 50mm Nikon, this lense is not as sharp across all the f-stops. still super sharp, but when you have a point of reference it the bar is higher :)
2. the bokeh when shooting portraits is not as nice as I expected. probably a combination of the smaller sensor size, and the fact that you have to get closer to the object as it's a 17mm. the 25mm (50mm equivalent) would probably give better results here, but then you'd compromise the wide angle, so this is more of a subjective point.
Great little lens
Perfect little lens for my Em-5. Does not feel out of place on my camera. Quality feel and construction.
Reminds me why I got the Em-5 in the first place. Small, light, affordable and takes great photos. wish I would have gotten this lens sooner.
Sharp! Perfect size. Classic look. This is my perfect everyday lens. Paired up with my E-M5 2, you can't go wrong.
Most used lens
I'm still learning about photography but its been a joy to learn using this 17mm f1.8 lens. It gets the most use for me compared to the kit lens and 45mm. Its small, sharp, and fast. Its great for group pictures and for wide landscapes. So much fun to use!
35mm ff equivalent which is ideal for street
pull back the ring for manual. again great for learning photography
very sharp corner to corner
auto focus is FAST
fairly small lens. almost pocketable

But then you need a replacement lens cover - CowboyStudio Univeral 46mm Center Pinch Snap-on Front Lens Cap with Leash for Canon DSLR Camera.
started me down a road of endless gear purchasing... lol
Small, sharp, distance markings and good manual focus ring.
