Need an excellent all-around lens to capture your stories? This high-performance zoom was made for you. Many Olympus Visionaries and other professionals consider the M.Zuiko ED 12-40mm f2.8 PRO an indispensable piece of equipment. Its superior optics, fast maximum aperture throughout the zoom range and fully weather-sealed, all-metal construction make it suitable for the most demanding professionals and enthusiasts.
PROFESSIONAL BUILD QUALITY
We know that serious shooters need the highest quality equipment, so we built the 12-40mm f2.8 PRO zoom accordingly. The premium metal lens body incorporates 14 lens elements in 9 groups, including Olympus ZERO-coated HD, ED, DSA and HR lenses. A seven blade circular aperture produces pleasing background defocusing effects. And its fixed f2.8 aperture is bright enough to capture sharp images across the entire zoom range.
Sometimes the harshest conditions produce the most dramatic photo opportunities. With separate seals to keep out moisture and dust, the 12-40mm f2.8 PRO is ready to take on the elements. You don’t have to baby this baby!
TAKE MAXIMUM CONTROL
The 12-40mm f2.8 Pro makes it simple to shoot your way. Adjust settings on the fly with the programmable L-Fn function button – located right on the lens barrel for easy access. Or switch seamlessly between auto and manual focus with the Manual Focus Clutch mechanism.
UNMATCHED SHOOTING VERSATILITY
The 12-40mm f2.8 PRO features a wide-angle focal length designed to faithfully reproduce landscapes, architecture and nature scenes. Shooting portraits? The seven blade circular aperture produces pleasing background defocusing effects, while the bright, fixed f2.8 aperture means you’ll be able to capture stunning images – even in low light.
PERFECT SIZE, PERFECT SHOT
M.Zuiko PRO lenses are significantly smaller than many professional DSLR lenses of equivalent specifications. Using a much more compact system expands your shooting field and increases photographic possibilities
SHHH, AMAZING PHOTOGRAPHY IN PROGRESS
The inclusion of the Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) mechanism makes Auto Focus operations nearly silent. In combination with the OM-D's silent electronic shutter, you can photograph skittish nature subjects as well as indoor events that require complete silence like musical performances. The size and weight of the OM-D system and these silent features open up a whole new world of shooting possibilities!

Wow. That’s all I can say. First off, I have to admit that I tend to be frugal when buying camera gear. I’ve also found that I can be penny wise, pound foolish when buying camera gear. So I’ve picked up many primes between the 12-40 range with none of them being in the “Pro” category. I’ve been satisfied with the results of my Oly 17mm 2.8, 25mm, 40mm, 19mm and 30mm Sigma and so on. I stumbled on a great deal for this lens, and while it was the most I’ve spent on a m4/3’s lens, I had high hopes for it. Suffice it to say, I was not let down at all. This thing takes the m4/3’s format to another level. My shots look so good. The focus is quiet and fast. Given that it’s mostly metal, the feel when attached to my E-M1 is perfect. Since the 2nd day of shooting, I’ve listed all of my primes that are covered by this focal length for sale since I see no reason to ever use them again. Although, I do love my 40mm and I’ll hold onto that one for a bit. Otherwise, buy this lens and don’t look back. I spent the same amount of money buying primes that fall within the range of this lens and now I see the light, so to speak.
