Lens is great, LENS HOOD is GARBAGE!
The 1 star is not geared towards the lens itself but rather the cheap lens hood (LH-76) that comes with it. After spending over $4k in switching over from Canon and after only 1 use, the lens hood already has fallen apart into 3 pieces. I expect more from a $1400 lens. If this is how Olympus makes their products, then I am not sure if I made the right decision in my purchases.

Lovely Lens!
Love this lens! Use it way more than I expected. Paired with the EM1 II it shows what this system can do. Sharp sharp sharp. And useable for birding with the 1.4X extender. Light enough to use as a walk around.

Necessary part of any Oly lens kit
I bought the 40-150 2.8 PRO refurb'd from #getolympus over a year ago, and its been every bit as sharp and contrasty as I'd want any lens to be. Much lighter than a dslr equiv, and the 80-300mm equiv reach is just great. Decent enough bokeh, and it makes a great portrait lens due to the subject isolation possible. Used in tandem with the 12-40 2.8 PRO, these 2 lenses cover everything from 24mm - 300mm equiv focal length in lightweight, quick focusing, shop, contrasty and weatherproof pair of lenses. While the Oly primes are very nice, even as a pro you may never need any more than these two lenses. The 1.4x converter pairs nicely with the 40-150 PRO too, and the 40-150 is every bit as sharp with it, giving you an ultimate reach of 420mm equiv. in a very compact package. Would have easily been 5-stars (six?) but I had to ding it for the overly-complex lens hood that works great on paper and indoors, but quickly succumbs to any real-world shooting as its too complex and fragile in construction. A 1-peice simple plastic hood would have been much better.
