Beautiful little pancake lens

This lens was one of the reasons why I decided to get a micro 4/3 system aside from the 17mm f1.2 pro. I also have the 15mm f8, and these tiny compact prime lenses are so fun to use. Compared to the 15mm f8, I feel that the build quality is somewhat tighter on this 9mm f8. Both the 15mm and the 9mm focus very smoothly, but I think the focus lever on the 9mm is nicer feeling. I think I could live without the click stop at the hyperfocal range, but I can see how it could be useful. One interesting thing about this lens is if you take the time to manually focus it, it's sharp, and the f8 aperture makes it so versatile. Compared to the 15mm where you get more aberrations as you move away from the center, this doesn't really show many aberrations in the same way. The fisheye effect is also very nice I think and not over the top. I still seem to use the 15mm more because I like the character it has, but this 9mm has been really fun to use and definitely a unique lens. I've used it in places where I would normally use a rectilinear wide angle, and the fisheye seems to give a very natural look even with people in the photo. This is such a fun lens, and for the price you should definitely try getting one. Unlike the 15mm which is more niche because of its character, I think this one is probably more enjoyable for most people, even those who want a bit more sharpness.

Punches well above its weight.

This lens really punches above its weight. Yes, there's some fisheye distortion similar to what you would get from certain action cameras and in the corners of the photo you see some distortion. That being said though, the center is very sharp- surprisingly so. I wasn't expecting it to perform so well. This isn't some toy lens- it's capable of producing some very sharp photos. Just keep your horizons level.

A competent and fun lens for a very low price

This lens is far sharper than it should be for it's price. It's perfect for those people wanting to try out an ultra wide angle lens without shelling out a lot of money. I honestly didn't expect it to be as good as it is. I just wish Olympus workspace offered fisheye correction for this lens (it's greyed out and inaccessible for this lens).
