There’s nothing natural about posing. Period. It likely feels awkward and cringe-worthy—even when you’re on vacation and have no chance of running into anyone. We’ve taken cues from today’s top bloggers and compiled a short list of non-awkward poses and how to shoot them.
6 THE PLANDID
Plandids (planned candids) are made to look like you’ve just been caught off guard. Try a pose where you’re not looking directly at the camera. It could be as easy as reading near a bay window or strolling along the beach. It sounds like an oxymoron, but the key is staging your plandid so it looks natural.
5 THE MID-ACTION POSE
When you stumble upon something Insta-worthy like street art or tiled floors, try an action pose. Whether that’s walking, jumping, or doing your favorite yoga move, movement is less awkward to style out than standing still and posing. Just remember to increase your camera’s shutter speed so you don’t get motion blur.
4 THE #FOLLOWMETO
Murad Osmann started this viral trend by capturing captivating photos of his wife leading him around the world. And it’s not just the pose we love, but how easy (and cringe-free) it is to copy. To keep focus on your hand in the foreground of your shot plus the view in the back, narrow your aperture to get a deeper depth of field.
2 THE BACK SHOT
Back shots have the potential to be epic. Try a wide-angle shot that focuses as much on the background as your nonchalant pose.
