Picture this: you arrive in a beautiful destination with an epic backdrop, but there’s no one around to take your photo. Don’t panic, but don’t rely on a smartphone selfie either (even if you’re using a selfie stick). If you want high-quality solo shots without an outstretched arm or silver pole in the frame, discover the camera features and techniques that can help.

1 SHOOT REMOTELY FROM YOUR PHONE

Cameras with built in Wi-Fi offer incredible benefits like remote shooting. This is huge for the selfie-takers of the world. By downloading your camera’s corresponding app, you can trigger your camera’s shutter and control all other settings from your phone. Plus, they make it super easy to share the photos with your family, friends, and followers once you’re done.

2 START THE CLOCK

For hands-free photography without anyone around, nothing beats the timer function. It completely eliminates the need for another person and allows you to frame the shot exactly as you want.

Simply go to your control panel and select the delay timer. 10 seconds should be enough to get into position unless you’re striking a crazy pose. You can select exactly how long you want the timer to be, how many images the camera will take, and the time between each one.

3 ENTER PORTRAIT MODE

As soon as you step out from the viewfinder and into the frame, you’ll want to change your shooting mode. With Olympus cameras, you can choose by turning the dial to SCENE (SCN) mode. Portrait mode smoothens skin, enlarges the catch light in eyes, and highlights your best features much like an editing app would.

4 GET MOVING

Your pose will frame your photo’s story. Many of us rely on standing and staring into the camera but actions like walking, dancing, and even jumping can look more natural in the final shot. If you have a camera with built-in Wi-Fi, use the Olympus Image share app (and a tripod) to shoot yourself remotely from a tap of your phone.
