The om-d em1 kii is the pinnacle of mirrorless technology built into one piece of magnesium. I've taken this device all over the world and under different weather and its still ticking after one year of environmental exposure. The camera is jam packed with so many built in features to capture different types of photography and its still smaller than the smallest DSLR on the market. Paired with the Tiny M zuiko lenses its a travel package that DSLR cameras can barely compete with. The camera MSRP is more than the first generation EM1 but it has a lot of more features and its up to date. RAW files are very malleable on the condition you expose correctly and you wont ever need a full frame camera ever again. Autofocus is so snappy and accurate. Its my travel companion.
I purchased the EM1ii about 6 months ago. I was a bit reluctant because I really like the smaller size of the EM5ii. Well, the EM1ii feels just as comfortable in hand and all my concerns disappeared once I started using it. If there is any weight difference I don't notice it. I love the fact that it has 2 SD cards slots, one of which is is UHSII compliant, giving me plenty fast storage. Once I started using the Pro Capture mode I fell in love with it. It's not a gimmick! and has become my default setting on this camera. Sequential shooting is blazingly fast giving me plenty of pictures to choose from to get my best wildlife shot.
I bought this camera a couple of months after it released. The biggest reason had to do with IBIS. I was shooting mostly video and needed to use less gear due to a back injury that was really being agitated by larger gimbles and such equipment that was needed to get a professional result. I was worried about switching from full frame to such a smaller sensor and how it would affect my results. I kept hearing how great the features were, but I kept thinking that it must be at the sacrifice of overall image quality. There are a few things that this camera lacks, like a joystick, but I still think it is not only the best camera every made relative to the time it was released, it is possibly the best value on the market today. The only other real complaint I have is the fact that the size of the camera doesn't balance well with many of the pro lenses and you kind of need the battery grip, but with it, it is a very comfortable camera to hold all day.
<br />Next I want to cover some fo the complaints that I have heard from professional reviewers. First, I don't mind the menus. In fact, for me, this is the most intuitive camera I have every picked up. Some people hate it, but I like that the menu system has as many options as it does, but you can still access all your main settings in the quick menu. Having a lever that doubles your button layout is amazing. If I ever have to pick up another body, I quickly miss this camera. The image quality is among the best of any camera system on the market. It does have a unique look and perspective with M43, but it is one that I have come to favor. The Olympus Pro Glass is some of the best I have ever used, even coming from medium format, especially when using pixel shift.
<br />The thing that really sets this camera apart is the use and speed. Sure, you can do HDR photography, or even stacked images and focus bracketing in other cameras, but this camera edits in body and spits out a product. I don't think a more user friendly camera does exist. The Olympus colors have quickly become my favorite. The images really feel textured. While I will readily admit that ISO noise is obviously going to be higher than larger sensors, I should also point out that the look of the noise is actually attractive in that it mimics film grain. The video files are amazing. The autofocus, while not the best on the market, is competent for things like sports and wildlife. But it is the little things like not overheating. I vividly remember taking it as a backup to an outdoor event that was 130 with 100% humidity. It ran all day at 4K and was the only piece of equipment that didn't overheat despite it being the cheapest.
<br />The features on the camera are somewhat being caught up to by other brands since. I have been looking forward to the replacement camera that recently came out, not to mention the E-M1X, but other than a higher frame rate at 1080 and some internal filter, possibly some improved autofocus, and handheld pixelshift, I don't really see the need to upgrade. Maybe I just remember how far ahead this camera was of everyone else when it came out and want that again, so the fact that it is the same price as the E-M5iii right now, I can't recommend getting this camera enough.
I had an E5 body and still have an E1 4/3 body with 15-54 MK1, 12-60 SWF and 70-300 lenses. My E5 with the 12-60 lens attached was stolen from a locked vehicle on a snowmobile trip. The E5 always worked, well beyond the operating range temps and took great shots while being very rugged.
<br /> I was resistant to the OM line because of its newness and the electronic viewfinder and another new lens system. As an amateur photographer I want a reliable, consistent and sturdy camera that functions easily and quickly for people, landscape, action and is easy to handle. As a one armed individual any needless fiddling around is a burden.
<br /> The E-M1 MK II with the MMF-3 Four Thirds Adapter solved my dilemma. After a reasonable learning curve my photographs equal or exceed my previous attempts and my 4/3 lenses all function as well or better on this body, it was a great benefit that I was able to use my legacy lenses. The metering and focus are exceptional. The size is much more manageable and the rear monitor with touch settings is quick and intuitive. The EVF is surprisingly excellent. Battery life is very good. It is likely that a Micro 4/3 lens or two will be added in the future.
<br /> A summer on the motorcycle and ATV followed by a season of snowmobiling will verify my belief in this camera. Very happy with my decision.
The E-M1 Mark II is the first "Professional" camera I have ever owned and it has set the bar pretty high for me. I love how light and compact it is, but still feels incredibly stable and well made. The AF is so accurate and having IBIS is something incredible valuable for me as I really enjoy shooting in low light. Probably most important though is the image quality, I really feel as though I've taken my photography to another level thanks to the E-M1. Highly recommended.
Awesome camera. I had the Em1 for a while and it was a sweet little camera way ahead in quality against other similar cameras during it's time. I loved the compactness and lightness of the whole kit. The Em1 m2 is a big update to the Em1 and the 20megapixel sensor is superb and amazing. I love this camera!

I purchased OMD E Mark ii and love it. It is a very light weight camera with a lot of punch. It is a learning curve but once you dig in its great for anything you want to do! Best Camera by far!
