You are all being too nice. It is shameful Olympus would have the audacity to allow this garbage out in the marketplace to fit on their beautiful product and have the audacity to charge $45 for it. It falls off, it breaks. I've gone through four of them in three years and got so frustrated I built my own out three separate generic parts. I'm back to this product. I've had my latest for three months and its two pieces have just separated on me, which is why I sound so frustrated. It takes so much of the pleasure away from enjoying the beautiful camera Olympus makes. My advice to Olympus: Either fix it or sell them in a four-pack for $10. It's junk as it stands now.
I agree with other reviewers, lens hoods seems a bit delicate. On the other hand mine is doing its job for 3 years now, and I never lost it and it is still standing.

Too delicate. Falls off too often
Over-engineered, under quality-controlled. Fancy multi part design held together with tiny dabs of glue. Does not stay on lens well enough.

Small Lens hood tends to fall off
Plastic lens hood - Very easy mounting and fits nicely on the lens.
Works nicely but adds even more bulk to the already big 12-40 lens.
Due to the nature of with Wide angle zoom lens don't expect much in terms of lens protection. Using the waterproof lens in the rain you going to have water on your lens.
It also has a tendency to fall off the 12-40 lens. Loosing this can become an expensive hobby....
One would think that, with the great engineering that has gone into the Pro series, as well,as the OM-D series, Olympus would, get their act together in designing hoods that stay on! Current design is pure JUNK!!!!! After losing two,of these, Imhave gone for a rubber collapsible hood. Message to Olympus-either design and manufacture a,product that does justice to the rest of the product line,,or come clean and say you are manufacturing and selling an inferior product..and in fact, reduce the lens price to,account for this!!!
