The FL-600R is an easy-to-use, external flash unit with a wide LCD display and wireless control capabilities. It features a built-in LED light that can function as an AF illuminator for still images or as full-time auxiliary lighting for shooting movies. As a bounce flash, the FL-600R tilts upward to 90 degrees and downward to 7 degrees, and it can swivel side-to-side up to 180 degrees in each direction. A wide panel and catch light plate are built into the unit, so you won't misplace them when traveling. Flash settings can be adjusted using the arrow keys and dial on the back of the unit or via the controls on an attached camera.
In wireless mode, the FL-600R has a built-in *commander function to remotely fire other wireless flash units without firing itself, but it can also be used as a slave flash, controlled by a camera's built-in flash or by another commander unit. Up to three groups of flashes, plus a clip-on flash such as the FL-LM2, can be configured independently. Four wireless channels are available, which prevents interference from other photographers' flashes. In addition to the wireless option, the flash can be attached and locked securely onto a camera's hot shoe or mounted externally using a compatible flash bracket and cable, such as the FL-BK01, FL-BKP02, FL-BKM03 or FL-BK04.
Powered by four AA alkaline or NiMH batteries, the FL-600R's charging time is approximately half as long as that of the FL-50R.
*Guide Number 50 at ISO 200; Guide Number 36 at ISO 100 (when built-in wide panel is not in use)
*Guide Number 17 at ISO 200; Guide Number 12 at ISO 100 (when using built-in wide panel)
*8 mm equivalent coverage (35 mm equivalent focal length = 16 mm) with built-in wide panel
Includes flash stand, soft case, instruction manual and warranty card.
* Note: The commander mode function is currently only available on the EM-5.
Wireless mode is not fully functional with the PEN E-P1\E-PL1\E-P2\E-PL2, or the E-1 or Evolt 300\330\410\500\510. Wireless Mode only works in Manual mode on the flash, not TTL. The flash will provide TTL when mounted directly on these models.
Note: Wireless TTL mode is possible with the SP-560UZ\SP-565UZ\SP-570UZ\SP-590UZ. These models do not have a hotshoe. The firmware of the SP-560 UZ must be updated to provide this functionality. Firmware updates can be downloaded and installed via Olympus Camera Updater software.

I purchased FL600r flash to replace a bad experience with a Godox flash. I am so glad I did. I mostly use the flash in the bounce mode using a variety of flash modifiers. I like the compact size without sacrificing flash output. I always carry it with me. I chose to write this review in response to someone wanting to get a Godox flash to replace a FL-600r. My experiences were just the opposite! Buy the FL-600r!
This flash is powerful, built well, and has lots of features... it’s worked great for me over the last year, but I’ve found myself not using it much lately, as wireless (radio) options have become available. I seem to need to add just a bit of +FEC for proper exposure, but it’s minimal and happens even on my other (non Olympus) small flash. My only nitpicks are that it’s too heavy IMO for the smaller non-EM1 bodies and makes them top heavy. Changing to 2 AA’s would fix that, but of course that comes with fewer pops and more battery changes if you’re a heavy user. My only other nitpick is that it needs a new Version II that’s upgraded to radio wireless as I’ve said before. I came to Olympus from Canon and used their RT system which is great. If Olympus really wants pros and advanced amateurs to move to MFT, developing and modernizing their speedlites should be on the to-do short list.
That said, if you’re good with the line of sight remote flash control and want a well built flash with a video light and are a heavy user. This is a really nice flash to have.
More powerful than it looks. Light and easy to travel with in my Stealth Reporter D300 Lowepro. Excellent bounce results. Built-in video light auto adjusts output nicely when you switch over to video mode (EM1 Mark II). The lamp also kicks in when you depress the shutter button half way to focus, boosting focus performance dramatically in low light. Very pleased overall. My only criticism is that it would be nice if you could still use the white card to reflect flash forward while shooting vertically. Also, the 600R's auto zoom makes noise. Maybe that's the improvement with the 900R besides the guide number jump...Still, for half the price, this is a very good buy.
