This pocket-sized camera has some features that set it apart from the usual point-and-shoot digital cameras. The 24X zoom is HUGE.
Image stabilization in this camera is exceptional Full HD Video Recording (1008/60i) and Smart Panorama feature to let you take panorama shots.
3" Touch Screen. Battery lasts for about 300 shots, pretty good.
Has a very sturdy, robust feel. A great camera for backpacking and outdoors.
This camera is bigger and heavier than most point-and-shoot. It is 30% bigger than a Canon Powershot I (But it also does more.) So, a bit bulkier than typical point-and-shoot cameras, which are often about the size of a pack of cards.
Video: very easy to use, high def is an advantage.
The manual is somewhat sketchy on the deeper features and it's not particularly good, missing some info and the software is not very functional. It's there as a "you need SOMETHING" but I recommend you use Photoshop Elements and Premiere 12 instead.
I like it far more than my Canon Powershot. If you can only buy one camera and it needs to be affordable and compact, this one is a great choice and has a lot of features for the price.

I am still learning to use this camera. It is my first Olympus and I am impressed. The image stabilization works very well. and I think the color results are impressive.
We are taking a European vacation in a few months and I look forward to some great pictures.

When to Portugal and Spain in November and wanted to have a fantastic but easy to use camera that didn't take 5 minutes just to set up a perfect shot. I needed one that was sensitive to tricky lighting as well as a good enough pixel count that I could get a very reasonable zoom in on the numerous ancient structures or just the general scenery; either in the moment or later on the computer. In the end the pictures take a bit of extra memory to store but nothing outrageous and I am thrilled with the level of detail in what I already see and not just what I recovered in the shadows with a bit of adjusting. The most impressive zoom was rested on a fence post zooming in on the next mountain top where an old Viking outpost was built... the zoom was sooo sweet that I could see the actual grain in the granite stones that were used to build it! Thank goodness I could satisfy my husbands curiosity with a great picture cause I was too pooped to hike anymore! This trip has sold me on Olympus for life; I will never buy any other name! Thank-you Olympus for providing me with such pleasure!

I replaced my old Stylus 820 with this newer model and before these two Olympus cameras I had a Minolta MD 11 35 mm film camera. First I had a hard time getting used to digital transition. Eventually I got used to it.
However the 820 was not a very good camera to transfer from my Minolta. I went back and forth from either format .
When I got the SH-50 iHS it was a completely different experience. I love the little camera. I use it mostly for architectural picture taking and sometimes family pictures and vacations.
I love it because of all of the different options it gives you. I would never use my film camera again. It is going to the museum.
I recommend this little camera. I only have one compliant. I wish it had a view finder. The camera does a wonderful job for someone who has had, Nikon, Minolta, Leica. and comes from 35 mm film and developing its own pictures. This is it! buy it! you will not regret it.

I love the beautiful color photos, but I am very disappointed that there is not an easy option for taking a black and white photo....it can be done through the Master system, but amazed this isn't an easy option on the camera.

Love how easy it is to use, Takes great pics, has the ease of use of a point and shoot, with DSLR features

I have owned two previous Olympus cameras. This one did not disappoint me! I haven't tried all of the functions but the "Auto" mode takes great shots. I also got it during a Christmas sale and received a free case. It does not come with a manual but it's easy enough to print off the disc.

Researched this camera and compared it against others - criteria, quality of pictures, stabilization of shots, ease of use. I got what I paid for and more. Love the control this camera gives you over the shot, or just let it take over for you. The zoom does not lose sharpness. I'm still learning, but I love it.

Back on June 29 2013 I wrote a review of this camera and since then I have taken it on a train trip from Montreal to Kingman AZ. and then drove through AZ. NV. and California.
I used both still and movie settings on the train and in a moving SUV. the resulting movies and images in HD were just great.
When I got back from this trip I compiled a movie onto a DVD and have watched on a 60' TV and again you would not believe how clear and professional it looks.
One of my other companions used another brand of camera and his movies were so jerky that I could only use one little movie section from him.
As I said at the beginning I am so impressed with this camera I am buying a second one for my wife.
Seeing is believing!

Only had a chance to use the camera twice so far. I was a little disappointed in the "sports" mode. Was taking pictures of my grandsons playing flag football and a lot of the action shots were just as blurry as my old Olympus VR 320. Rechecked camera settings and everything seemed to be set OK. I'll have to keep trying and play around with it some more. Aside from that, the video and still shots look great.

This camera is my third Olympus and is by far the best of the three I own.
I was skeptical at first because I thought it would be complex to use.
I have found out it is easy and very easy to learn to use all of the features.
The lack of a printed manual is not such a big draw back , I have printed my own copy from the PDF file and it works for me.
The crispness on the pictures and the video are amazing in comparison to my other two Olympus.
All of the features are great for creativity . I recommend this camera highly. you will not be sorry; It is worth the money. I am having a lot of fun taking pictures of my grand kids and have taking it on our vacation. It takes great pictures.

The camera itself it really nice. It's a good size & does everything I wanted. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a manual. I downloaded the manual but found the print much too small for me to read. I went to the Olympus Learn Center & found I can probably print out most questions from there but that will take an awful lot of time, paper & ink.

The anti-blur technology caught my attention with this camera. While the camera is easy to use, it also has many features to experiment with and learn from. Great video quality, too. This camera offers better quality than the "popular" point and shoot cameras that you can buy at big box stores. I highly recommend!

Very similar to the SX-14 which I have but vastly superior in the video taking- the stabilization control is excellent and the ability to take pictures while filming is a great bonus. As with all Olympus cameras, great features and a superb dollar value.

Beautiful form meets ultimate function in this camera and that's no exageration. I have had five digital cameras before this including an Olympus PEN that I liked very well. None has had the full features in a convenient size as this one does. The menus are intuative and easy to use, the buttons are comfortably and traditionally located and the anti-shake features are as good as Olympus claims. Best and most important of all the photos look extremely fine with little noise and the colors seem very accurate. Battery life is plenty long, but I did also purchase a spare. I do wish there were a way to charge the battery outside the camera, but there is a light around the power button to let you know when it is fully charged. I love the telephoto range and at this point no other point and shoot has this extreme range and with the superlative stabilization you can use the full zoom without a tripod. I give this camera my highest recommendation.

I purchased this camera mainly for the 5-axis video stabilization and I was not disappointed. The camera seems to be floating through the air when taking videos while on the move. Another great feature which I like is the ability to just touch the screen on what you want to focus on and take the picture without having to use the shutter button. Pictures and video all are sharp and clear. The 3-axis stabilization when taking pictures also does a great job while the 24x/48x zoom is a lot of range for such a small camera. The camera is very well constructed and has a little weight to it. The only thing I did not like on the camera is the plastic cover over the USB and HDMI connections. A hinged door would be less inclined to be broken. Overall a great little camera.

I researched this and comparable cameras from other manufactures before I chose this model.
The fact that I own two other Olympus cameras probably did weigh my decision to go with Olympus, but this feature rich camera had many pluses going for it over the competition.
Now that I own this camera I am absolutely super impressed with it. Everything that the Ad says is true and this little gem has replaced my C5050 and my C8080 as my bring along camera.
I am a retired Pro Shooter and really did not want to lug around a great lump of a DSLR or look like I was on the job every time I raised the camera especially in public as I have found the bigger the camera the more people shy away thus killing any spontaneous moment.
From wide to an amazing zoom this camera covers it all and the richness of detail along with the HD movies not only satisfies my artistic side but also my aching shoulders from years of hauling around tons of equipment.
As I said at the beginning, "A Great Camera".

I bought this camera for my 13-year old daughter, for her birthday. She enjoys taking close-up photos of flowers, bugs, leaves, etc. This is an all-around great, point-n-shoot camera. It has a lengthy zoom, is both touch screen or not, takes macro images and is just what she wanted.
