Fast & sharp

I thought that I would not use this lens much. Wrong. Even at its 150mm equivalent length it works well for portraits and is a great street lens for shooting subjects that you can't get close to. Nice lens. With these fast primes Olympus has really scored.

I find this lens on my OM-D E-M1 more often than any other. For gatherings of people you can sit at the next table and shoot image after image of a person for an in-depth portrait. Outdoors, it lets the background retain a majesty that the eye sees but is hard to capture. The F1.8 Bokeh is wonderful. And F1.8 retains sharpness in a long lens when handheld because it enables high shutter speeds. It is sharp as a tack in all of its larger apertures.

Although it is not a lens I use often, when needed it is a wonderful, sharp lens. I use it for flower portraits, person portraits, and the occasional panorama. The long focal length and wide aperture shorten the depth of field for flower pictures or portraiture. The smaller sensor of the m.four thirds system really needs a very fast lens to reduce depth of field, and this is it.

No regrets for the past, for me small is beautiful.

After using Nikon (D300/D700) and Sony (NEX-7/A7r) now I use only Olympus. Two body OM-D E-M5: one OM-D E-M5 with M.Zuiko 25mm F1.8 and another OM-D E-M5 with M.Zuiko 75mm F1.8. No regrets for the past, for me small is beautiful. Image quality of the Olympus with its lens is sharp, beautiful with gorgeous color.

Lovely lens

It's quiet, fast, and works well in low-light situations.

A superb achievement.

I just finished my Olympus set up and couldn't be more happier. I now have the 9-18, 25mm 1.8, 45mm 1.8 and capped it off with this lens. As far as sharpness goes it provides a noticeable crispness to your pictures that can be easily seen. Plenty of contrast and very little chroma wide open. I've gotten some great pics (would be nice if we could upload some in these reviews- wink wink).

In terms of functionality I do not find this focal length limiting at all. You'll read reviews of those who state they don't use it often- quite possibly. But it depends on your shooting style. As with any camera system I've had- the 135mm equivalent always gets the most use and provides for me the best images. A combination of compression, bokeh and other traits associated with this focal length.

I also own the Sony Zeiss 135mm 1.8. I in no way find this lens inferior- absolutely not. You will not get the same shallow DOF, but in most cases it simply doesn't matter. My subjects are more often in focus and a pocket sized 150mm 3.5 equivalent is simply a pleasure to use on it's own. Don't think you can get great background blur when you need it. Just be prepared to actually get more keepers with a little bit more DOF. Great buy.

Another fantastic fast prime

I am using it a lot more than I thought. The image quality is stunning. I bought a refurb and saved $100.
Close focus is not too close, but for outdoor portraits - wow!
I also used it for some outdoor group shots. I went way back, ran 2 600R flashes with PocketWizards and the results were great. The fall foliage colours were compressed and brought right into the group photo due to the 150mm effective length.
A lot more versatile than you might think and forces you to experiment a little. What more could you ask for?

Sharpest Lens Yet

This is one of the sharpest lenses available for any system -- essentially as sharp wide open as stopped down, as sharp in the corners as in the center. It is solidly constructed (made in Japan) and beautifully finished. Only fault is that Olympus are too cheap to include its hood and pouch. As a portrait lens, it is more useful at longer distances from the subject, such as use outdoors or in larger spaces. It is also wonderful as a landscape telephoto.

Of all my portrait lenses I have owned, this one is THE BEST.

I know it is hard to believe this but I actually prefer this lens over my old Canon 85L II. It's focus is fast, build quality is superb.... I LOVE THE QUALITY of the build. This lens in combination with the 45, 17 and 25 PanaLeica form my lineup and I have used them for many well paying gigs over the past year. When this lens came out I sold my FF DSLR setup and converted to all M43. I truly believe anyone serious about photography should consider this lens as a valuable asset in their lineup. You will LOVE what this lens will do. Smooth bokeh, fast focus, sharp as anything I have ever seen from edge to edge, no distortion, quiet with smooth focus operation and sexy as anything in silver.

Who can argue

The quality of the lens has been well documented. Yes the cheapskates should provide a hood at the very least but there are third party alternatives.

I like the lens and the quality of the shots it takes. This particular length is a bit of a tweeter for me so I find I am not using
It as much as I thought I would. I will be trying to find some new perspectives to take advantage of this lens. I would really like to see something like a 75mm-150mm f2. While it wouldn't be cheap I think I personally would use it more. I have been thinking about the pant 35-100 because that is a range I do use but based on the reviews I am waiting to see if olympus comes up with something in that focal range.

Great little lens but think about your shooting style.
