NEVER MISS A MOMENT WITH
THE SMALL AND STYLISH PEN.
The smallest and lightest PEN is available in six stylish colors – purple, pink, brown, white, silver and black – and features a new and simplified user interface as well as a streamlined button structure for superior ease-of-use. Its small size and portability make it the ideal camera to document life's fun and spontaneous moments.
Operating the camera is more intuitive with the newly designed user interface. The innovative screen activates popular menu options such as Art Filters, iAuto, Scene Modes, and Movie. The on-screen graphics have also been updated with a sleeker font design and an automatic pop-up guide in the menu screen.
The E-PM1’s Live Guide system allows you to preview effects as you adjust them – before the image is even captured. Simply select Live Guide and turn the wheel on the back of the camera to slide through numerous photographic effects, such as brightness, color saturation, tone, etc.
EXCELLENT SHOTS - EFFORTLESSLY
iAuto automatically identifies the scene you're shooting – portrait, landscape, night portrait, macro, or sport – and adjusts the settings to optimize results. The E-PM1 is also equipped with 23 Scene-Select modes for effortless picture taking, including new 3D mode, Fireworks, Sunset, Children, Macro and Panorama, to name a few. There are even three scene modes that are specific to shooting with Olympus’ conversion lenses to optimize the performance of those lenses.
THREE-INCH, BRIGHT WIDESCREEN LCD
This 460 dot high-resolution screen is big and bright enough to let you shoot and share photos and HD video with ease.
No need for cables or even a computer. Upload or email images directly from your camera with an optional PP-1 PENPAL® or Eye-Fi™ card. The E-PM1 is also capable of recording stills and video to SD, SDHC, SDXC and UHS-I media cards.
The new 12.3 megapixel sensor is optimized to maximize the performance of all mZuiko digital lenses in any shooting condition. Improvements in the sensor makes shooting in low light and Full HD movie recording possible.
STABILIZATION TECHNOLOGY IN THE BODY, NOT IN THE LENSES
Say goodbye to blurry images. Olympus’ in-body image stabilization technology makes it possible to use any Micro Four Thirds lenses (or Four Thirds lens), from wide-angle to telephoto, for perfectly clear, crisp photos no matter what the shooting situation, even in low light!
FACE DETECTION WITH EYE DETECT
Nail the focus for every portrait photo, every time. The new face detection AF employs an "Eye Detect AF" that adjusts focus automatically on the subject's eyes during portrait shooting and can even be adjusted to focus on the right, left or near-side eye. The Face Detection function captures up to eight faces, reducing the chance of blurred subjects when shooting several people at once.
ADVANCED SHADOW ADJUSTMENT TECHNOLOGY
You no longer need to worry about the extreme contrast between dark and bright areas in your images. The E-PM1's Shadow Adjustment Technology corrects for extreme light variations with high-tech efficiency either before image capture or during post-capture edits.
FULL 1080 HD VIDEO
Shoot up to 29 minutes of 1080 60i HD video and stereo sound in either AVCHD or AVI formats. A Direct HD Movie Button switches you from still to movie mode with just the press of a button.
IN-CAMERA ADVANCED ART FILTERS
Six in-camera Art Filters (Pop Art, Soft Focus, Grainy Film, Pin Hole, Diorama and Dramatic Tone) can be used in all shooting modes as well as filming HD movies. The E-PM1 also includes bracketing up to seven images, each image with a different applied Art Filter. Since they’re built into the camera, these Art Filters can achieve dramatic results on the go without the need for computer or editing software.
WIDE VARIETY OF LENSES AND ACCESSORIES
A range of interchangeable lenses, accessories and flashes are compatible with the E-PM1 to support all different types of photography needs.
NEW 3D SHOOTING
Add a new dimension to your photographs in any mode from macro to landscape with Olympus’ 3D technology. By simply selecting the 3D Photo Mode, releasing the shutter, and slowly panning, the camera will automatically take a second image from a slightly different perspective. The 3D data is processed in-camera resulting in an .MPO file, the universal industry 3D format, for easy display on 3D televisions or laptops.
Designed to meet the needs of the professional photographer, the ZUIKO DIGITAL lens was born of an uncompromising commitment to performance, in order to achieve the best combination with the digital SLR camera.
M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f4.0-5.6
M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm f4.0-5.6 is extremely light, weighing only 6.7 ounces. With a wide zoom range with a 35mm equivalent to 80-300mm, this lens offers versatility and portability. It's an affordable complement to the powerfully simple 3x wide-angle zoom lens (M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42 f3.5-5.6) that comes standard with the PEN kit. The M.ZUIKO 40-150mm has two lens elements in the rear focusing mechanism. The focusing mechanism is designed to deliver quiet and precise operation, for an affordable, high quality means to capture your life in still images or HD videos.
M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f1.8
This single-focal-length portrait lens has a beautiful shallow depth of field which allows for background blurring effects that are not possible with the 14-42mm kit zoom lens. The Movie-Still-Compatible (MSC) mechanism utilizes nearly “silent” focusing technology. It is great for tracking a moving child or pet, and provides a quick and silent focus mechanism for movies and still photography.
The addition of this super luminosity LED beam allows the camera to focus faster in low light up to almost 10 feet.
INCREASED ISO SENSITIVITY
Stunning low light photos are a click away with an increased ISO sensitivity to 12,800.
ATTACHABLE FLASH INCLUDED
This camera provides the flexibility to attach a flash to your camera via the accessory port, or leave it at home for maximum portability.
5 FPS SEQUENTIAL SHOOTING
With the E-PM1 you can take up to five photos a second, allowing you to easily capture that perfect shot, especially when your subject is moving.
WORLD’S FASTEST AUTO FOCUS*
The new FAST (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology) AF System is able to focus at an incredible speed and offers 35 separate focus points that are spread over nearly the entire sensor, which makes it possible for pin-point accurate focusing on small subjects wherever they appear in the frame. Selectable 3x3 groups within the 35-point area are especially effective when shooting active subjects.
IMPROVED COLOR REPRODUCTION
The new TruePic VI Image Processor, designed specifically for the Olympus PEN, features Real Color Technology for improved color reproduction (especially colors such as emerald green, yellow, and gold) and color gradation. The faster processor also allows for a shorter recovery time between shots.
IMPROVED COLOR REPRODUCTION
High-precision engineering and an improved internal focusing mechanism have allowed the Olympus MSC (Movie+Still Compatible) lenses to auto focus quickly, smoothly and silently, perfect for stills and movies.
FAST SHUTTER RESPONSE
Never miss a shot again with the E-PM1’s fast shutter response time of less than 60 milliseconds. The TruePic VI feature allows for reduced shot-to-shot time by shortening the black-out time between shots.
The E-PM1 incorporates a port for connecting accessories including flashes, MAL-1 Macro Light, EMA-1 Microphone adapter, PENPAL® and the VF-2 viewfinder.
IN-CAMERA SLIDESHOW WITH SOUND
Slideshows have never been easier or more fun to create. The E-PM1's enhanced playback functions allow you to employ effective fade-in/fade-out techniques, control the movie/still mix and speed, add captivating musical soundtracks, and much more.
PROFESSIONAL AUDIO SOUND CAPTURE
Take videos that are able to capture uncompressed CD-quality 16bit/44.1kHz Linear PCM stereo recording or AC3 Dolby Digital audio.
EASY PHOTO & VIDEO PLAYBACK ON YOUR HDTV
The E-PM1 makes sharing your content easier than ever. Using the HDMI output, just connect the E-PM1 to your HDTV with an HDMI cable (not included) and navigate the camera's menus from the comfort of your couch. This is perfect for sharing your pictures and movies with an audience.
MULTIPLE EXPOSURE SHOOTING
A Multiple Exposure function enables you to be creative right in the camera. Multiple images can be captured and combined to create one unique image. The creative possibilities are endless!
ADDITIONAL ASPECT RATIOS
The E-PM1 lets you select one of five Aspect Ratios (4:3 / 3:2 / 16:9 / 6:6 / 3:4) that frame your images to whatever proportions you'd like, for everything from conventional enlargements to viewing on widescreen monitors.
PROVEN DUST REDUCTION SYSTEM
Olympus’ Dust Reduction System assures spot-free images, even after changing lenses. Every time you turn on the camera, the patented Supersonic Wave Filter silently vibrates, flinging and collecting dust so that it doesn’t interfere with the picture imaging at any time.
Capturing beautiful portraits is easy with the ePortrait Mode that enables you to soften shadows and smooth your subject’s complexion either before image capture or during post-capture edits.
LIVE VIEW MAGNIFICATION
For accurate manual focusing, MF Assist can be enabled during S-AF + MF operation. With it you can zoom in on the central part of the image by up to five times by turning the focus ring.

Customer Reviews of the PEN E-PM1

I bought this camera as a complement to my Panasonic GX1. It is more pocketable and although it has only 12 mgpixels, with the proper lens (in this case the Lumix 14mm F2,5) it is the perfect size to have with me all the time. Good quality build (I added a grip which improves the handling) and I get great shots (RAW) processed with DXO lab 9 and further worked with Photoshop CS6.

Great value great capability
Find the quailty to be outstanding. The menu takes some effort but is fine after a bit of work.Would like to see the viewfinder added to a camera of this ability.lack of flash is ok...the factory lenses would be a little longer would be great,no one likes changing lenses .viewing pictures and getting around the photo ia awkward. Great camera ...thankyou.

Pen e pm1
I have had my pen e pm1 almost a week, love it , it is just the right size and light in weight, easy to handle, I have severe arthritis in my wrists, and this camera, allows me to continue with one of my favorite pass times, photography.
PS I have only ever owned Olympus Cameras

Learn it and you'll love it
I absolutely love this camera. The only issue I have with it is navigating all the menus. Make sure you download the manual from the disc to your hard drive (or print all 120 pages of it) and familiarize yourself with noise reduction, white balance controls, auto/manual focus settings and anything else that pertains to your picture taking situation. Once you do this, you'll be blown away by the difference between this camera and any point and shoot you've ever used.
July 02, 2013
I purchased this camera because of the stylish look. I really did not think it would be all that different from my other cameras until I took my first few photos and printed them out side by side with my other cameras...(keep in mind my "other" cameras are point and shoot cameras that I keep in my pocket) Anyway the difference was evident. The PEN was brighter and clearer. I only wish that the zoom was greater...I will have to update my lens soon. But overall cool camera, nice pictures, decent learning curve, room for expansion, compact, and great conversation piece...

Fits the bill
I wanted a small camera with interchangeable lenses. E-PM1 meets and exceeds those requirements. After about 6 months of use, including a trip to Italy, I have the following opinions:
great form factor-lightweight, easy to handle, controls all in easy to reach places
picture quality - limited only by the owners skills
availability of lenses/accessories
menus require some searching, if you use infrequently, plan to spend time with the manual
hard to figure out how to date stamp pictures. It can be done, but its hard to find out how
I had the opportunity to take a private photography lesson with a professional landscape photographer. He uses Nikons, but had just purchased a digital point and shoot. I could tell that he was rethinking his purchase after seeing the capabilities of the E-PM1. He was very impressed.

not easy to use software
The software as compared to Cannon's is not user friendly, to download pictures is a 4 step process, when you plug it in to the computer you have initialize the process to download instead of the software recognizing the camera and starting the process. You also must make sure they are downloaded correctly before you delete them from the camera. Overal picture quality in Auto flash is very poor. Not happy with the camera at all, should have got a Cannon, I hope I can return this paper weight.

The worst camera
I got this camera about month ago and yesterday i tried it for first time at perfect weather condition and i`m very disappointed of its quality actually it has more noise on daylight photos than my iphone 5 has at night shots, i don't know why user are writing 5 star review???

Let me tell you I know squat about cameras and photography. I only have had point and shoot cameras.( I took horrible pictures.) I started reading reviews of cameras, and learned that most everyone loved their Olympus E-PM1 cameras, so I purchased THE PINK ONE!
This camera helps me take the most wonderful pictures. I took it out of the box and played with it for a few minutes, Not knowing anything I have had the best pictures. I just bought a new lens 40 -150mm! Its a keeper. Small, light, well built. It doesn't feel cheap at all. I am very happy with my purchase and suggest to anyone who wants great pictures and ease of use for beginners to get this camera. If I can do it I know anyone can! The only draw back to this is all the extras seem to be a bit spendy, but I already added extras because the camera is well worth it. Thanks and have a great day!

The Perfect upgrade from the SZ-10
I have owned the EPM-1 for 2 months now and have been amazed. Since purchasing this camera I have done macro, candid, landscape & concert photography. An example to demonstrate the quality of this camera. I went to a concert where the R&B singer Song writer E### V###r was performing and took my EPM-1 just to test it out. I took pictures throughout the night and posted them to Facebook a few hours after the concert and tagged some friends. Two days later I got a call offering me a job touring with E### V###r. I was on the road for two weeks taking photos with my EPM-1 and had a blast experimenting. Also the included flash is awesome it allows for super fast transitions between no flash & flash shots. There were a couple draw backs though, just compared to the SZ-10 that I was not expecting.
- First was the audio on videos:
There was no gain control which made any video I did almost worthless because of high SPL's i was not able to adjust for, the microphones often distorted especially in the lower frequencies, the high did not distort as easy where as the SZ-10 also without gain control handled everything I threw at it (lows distorted even with low SPL's).
- Second manual focus:
When in this mode the LCD screen zooms in which makes it difficult to quickly find the subject of focus.
I am very happy with this purchase despite the minor draw backs and would make it again in a heartbeat. I will be leaving the country for six months and can't to see what happens. I am ready to try this camera out with the PT-EP06L underwater housing when scuba diving to compare with the K#####. .
