A Year Later
I have had the AIR 101 for a year now. I have taken about 1500 images with it. I have four lenses for it, a macro, wide, and two zoom lenses to cover the range of 18-300. It has traveled with me and is a constant companion, but like some companions, it can be annoying. It fits with the concept of choose a sensor, choose a lens and choose your accessories. Which I think in some ways, is the future of cameras. The problems I have are the same as most, low battery life - solved by buying a battery pack that I plug into the camera. Heat can be an issue at times. I have found that if my phone isn't fully charged, there are problems.. So patience is required, this is not a 10FPS camera. It is also first generation. A couple of tips I learned along the way: A small tripod is your best friend. A small LED light source is handy. A case is a good thing. Don't be afraid to shoot in manual mode, use a metering app for your phone or bring a small one. Small tripod clamps are good for hiding the camera. A small battery charger system should be purchased if you plan on using the camera for an extended period. Say more than two hours. It's a great conversation starter. I built a small underwater rig using a mason jar and a piece of thin clear plexi for the lid and with a good rubber gasket was able to use the jar's screw on lid with no leaks. Didn't go deeper than nine feet. . It would be nice to have a flash port. But I use the LED light in my phone to illuminate some things and have a small portable LED that works in a pinch. I shoot professionally, and no, it's not a primary camera. It is however good for setting up in a place and shooting time lapse or where you want it hidden and taking an occasional photo. I've also used it to shoot video although would like a mic port. The audio is fair- at best. With it's "hackability" I think in time we'll see some solid firmware changes, like shooting at 24FPS, 60 FPS and so on. As well as support products. But if you're a social media shooter, working on a tight budget, don't want to lug around a big camera but want quality images, ability to change lenses and ease of use - this is a good camera for that type of work. And after a year, it's proved to be rugged, and within its limitations of battery life, heat and speed - a decent camera.

Pretty nice
This is a fascinating product and I like using it. I got it in hopes it would compensate for the loss of my right hand and in large measure the AIR A01 it does so. It isn't perfect but it is a great step in the right direction. It was difficult to pair the camera with my IOS device but once achieved things worked as advertised. It could use a flash, I guess, and maybe a handgrip but basically it is fun and easy to use. I'm pretty happy with it and it will do things an iPhone can't.

Problems with WiFi connection and limitations
The camera itself is a great instrument to take great pictures. I have one 14-42 m-4/3 zoom and an adapter to MFT that accepts all my Four-third lenses. I've been plying with the camera for the past 2 months but have encountered problems of connection between the Air and my IOS device. I was trying to photograph my daughter's graduation inside the Basketball arena at her University and there was no way to get a connection. the connection has also failed in another places with less steel structure and it is frustrating that I cannot count with this device as my handy camera. I also find that the suite software is not completely intuitive as it should be when pairing with an IOS device and it takes a good extra time to change the settings once you are working, not just a flip of a button. One big disadvantage of the system is the inability to fire an external flash with it. Also in despite of being an open platform, I have not seen other apps on this camera beyond the bundle software. I'm not a developer but having both, BT and WiFi that send signals overtime a picture is taken, there could be a signal to activate a flash radio-trigger that will then fire a flash. I have not seen new tutorial videos neither on Olympus site nor in youTube. I'm curious to know if this camera is not getting the attention it deserves neither from Olympus nor the users and developers and that is sad. I have not received either any notification of firmware update from Olympus. It is a great concept but needs further attention to be reliable and practical. Still the new smartphone with relatively high megapixel chips and tons of apps, are more practical and reliable to use that the Olympus Air.
