  • BUILT FOR BEAUTIFUL BOKEH

Photographers who shoot a lot of portraits and still-lives are always seeking good bokeh. Lenses with relatively shallow depth of field – like the 45mm – are especially well suited to capture the combination of tack-sharp subject and beautifully soft, defocused background that exemplifies bokeh.

  • PRO-LEVEL PHOTO QUALITY

You’ve seen a lot of professional-level photos with sharply rendered subjects and artistic defocused backgrounds. This is the lens that will help you achieve the same kind of shots. It’s especially good for portraits, but also works well for stills, action and video. In short, it’s a great addition to your Olympus photographic system.

COMPATIBLE MECHANISM

One of this lens’s most interesting features is the unique-to-Olympus Movie & Still Compatible mechanism, or MSC. This technology provides amazingly fast – and nearly silent – autofocus operation. You’ll really notice the benefit when you play back your HD video and the only thing you hear is the ambient background noise in the scene you were filming; what you won’t hear is the sound of the lens focusing. This lens is perfect for tracking action. With MSC and the super-bright f1.8 aperture, you can film a school play or indoor sporting event in low light and still get excellent results.

Light rocket-shaped lens.
To me, this is Olympus's most beautiful looking lens, it looks like one of those old rangefinder lenses.

Sharp, portable portrait lens
I have to get it out of the way first: this is a goofy-looking lens. Whether it adds to the charm or feels strange to you is a personal preference type thing, but it is bizarrely skinny. That being said, the image quality (that is, what's actually important) is fabulous. My primary lens on this body is the 75m 1.8 (specialized but incredible), and this lens is one of the few that can come close to the 75's sharpness for when I need something a little wider. It's also extremely light, so it's easy to tote around just in case.

Perfect portrait lens!
I've been using this lens for over a year now as my portrait lens and I've got to say it does an amazing job. The lens is very sharp even wide open, but gets incredibly sharp at around F/2.8. The bokeh has a nice feel to it and is great for separating the main subject from the background. For the money, there's no better value.
