If your typical “walking-around” kit is an Olympus PEN or OM-D mounted with a standard kit zoom lens or wide-angle prime, the 40-150 is a great affordable option for a versatile two-lens set-up. COMPATIBLE MECHANISM

One of this lens’s most interesting features is the unique-to-Olympus Movie & Still Compatible mechanism, or MSC. This technology provides amazingly fast – and nearly silent – autofocus operation. You’ll really notice the benefit when you play back your HD video and the only thing you hear is the ambient background noise in the scene you were filming; what you won’t hear is the sound of the lens moving as it changes focus. With MSC and a great focal length range, you can record everything from the big game to vacation footage with ease.

Great Value
Great lens for the money. Well-made, light, compact, and works well with the camera. It is easily and quickly "swapped" with other lenses. The image is sharp at all settings. It's great for traveling and birding and fits easily into day sack. This is the perfect lens when combined with the 14-42 that came with the camera. I imagine I will have this for many years to come and will haul it all over the world.

Lightweight telephoto Zoom
The image quality of this lens is quite good and very sharp. It focuses easily, and produces good color. It's lightweight, making it very easy to carry around. I've used it to make some beautiful portraits. As a $99 add-on, it was an incredible value. Having said that, I have to subtract a star for the plastic lens mount. The plastic mount may never pose a problem, but I don't believe that any modest savings in price or weight are worth that risk. I can't imagine that a metal mount would have made a discernible difference in the weight, and only a small difference in cost. Nonetheless, I like this lens, and it is a good value.

Can't ask for more unless you go for PRO version
Underrated lens. I dropped and broke the lens (came as kit lens with E-PL3) in volunteer work for outdoor event. The lens and E-PL3 was too light and didn’t realize I had my camera wrapped around my wrist. It fell off on concrete pavement while I were taking off my jacket! Anyway, I have no hesitation to pick up the new one next day (the ‘R’ version was still on sale for $99 CAD back to a year ago). Sharpness through entire range from 40mm to 150mm. The lens is four and half stars for the image quality plus half star for the price.
